Grades K-2: Janie reads one of her books (projected on large screen so the audience can see). She shares images of her home and life. And, through digital drawing she demonstrates how to draw expressions, how to draw a monkey face, and, at the end of the session, the group helps her create an imaginary creature.

Grades 3-6: Janie discusses the process of making art for a picture book--from concept through completion. Her presentation includes showing rough sketches and final art. She walks the audience through the art-making process, engaging them in thought-provoking discussion, helping them discover how much work goes into the process of making a book. Janie's presentations are tailored to the audience according to age and/or area of interest. Session will include reading of a book, digital drawing demonstration, and drawing of imaginary creature (with group involvement).

Janie discusses her work as an author and illustrator (see left column) and talks about the process of creating original works for children in the corporate world of publishing.

Janie works in Corel Painter® and Adobe Photoshop® when not working traditionally. She demonstrates how she works in the digital environment.
